What is the origin of the Copic brand name?

Copic markers were developed in the eighties so that it would be possible to draw over the toner used in copy machines. Before, the ink from markers would dissolve the toner, but Copic markers overcame this issue. Given this context and their association for use along copy machines we named our markers 'Copic'.
